Now that the rubber has hit the road, the marketing plan should be complete. However, there is one final step that will be necessary moving forward. As you execute the marketing plan, you will begin seeing some successes and other areas that aren’t showing the numbers you want. When your measurable steps aren’t satisfactory, it will be time to review and revise.
The question becomes does your marketing strategy simply need more focus, or a complete revision. A specific case study can come from my work with The Writer’s Conquest. While the marketing side, One Giant Pitch, is doing well, the numbers are growing the blog, as a whole is expanding. Every month there are more unique visits from all over the world. In fact the last three months have been the best month yet, then each one tops the previous month. It’s validating and proving that the work is worth it. However, the writing aspect, The Rabid Pen, is not showing the numbers. While the writing is meant to be a parallel to the marketing strategy of the week, the visits just aren’t coming. So, unless something changes it will be likely that the writing aspect of it may be altered, or cut entirely after this marketing plan concludes.
You’ll have to enter your marketing strategy, as a writer, knowing not everything will work. Don’t take it as complete defeat. Rather, look at it as a chance to refine your approach. Just as you spend time revising based on feedback about your manuscript, you should also take notice of the marketing work you do. Allow yourself to be open to change while sticking to fundamentals of your strategy.
