April 16th, 2010 – Five Websites for Aspiring Writers

ROCKY MOUNTAIN FICTION WRITERS – WWW.RMFW.ORG

This website is more specifically focused on Colorado, but is very helpful nonetheless. I recently joined and will be attending their next big event as well as contact the discussion group for Aurora. By joining, you get to go to their special events and can use the contacts to help each other to try to get published as a fiction novel writer.

INDIE BOUND – WWW.INDIEBOUND.ORG

This website will help you to find independent book sellers that focus on selling newer and lesser known authors. You can join the community, search for booksellers, and you can try to make the coveted Indie Next List.

BARNES AND NOBLE DISCOVER NEW AUTHORS – WWW.BN.COM/DISCOVER

While getting on their new authors list is quite hard to do, it is possible. One thing that also helps, though, is the excessive amount of interviews you can read, see, and hear from successful additions to the list and how they were discovered. How did they get their book published, etc.

WRITER’S MARKET – WWW.WRITERSMARKET.COM

This website can be frustrating because a lot of times, when they say a publisher or agent is accepting new entries, they get flooded and stop taking new submissions. This website is one of the big ones and as a result gets a lot of traffic. However, it has helpful guidelines, can help you find agents, publishers, and contests. It does cost to join, just so you know.

WRITER’S DIGEST – WWW.WRITERSDIGEST.COM

This website is very much like the Writer’s Market. They have a lot more information available for free though.

We’ll see you next week, thanks for subscribing, commenting, and for plain-old-reading.
